Sokchiveneath holds the position of Socio-Economic Development Senior Manager and sits on the Management Committee at Fédération des Coopératives du Nouveau-Québec (Ilagiisaq – FCNQ) from 2011 to 2020, where he has held several positions over the past 31 years. His first mandate as Senior Manager was to create the Nunavik financial services cooperative, banking services for all Nunavimmiut of the fourteen communities in partnership with the Caisse d’économie solidaire Desjardins from 2007 to 2015. Later, he lead all local projects for the cooperatives and some FCNQ activities. He is also responsible for the insurance coverage for all 14 cooperatives, the FCNQ, and the 10 FCNQ Subsidiaries.
Sokchiveneath is a member of the Chartered Administrators Order of Quebec and the International Credit Union Development Educator. He graduated from Saint Mary’s University with a Master’s degree in Management of Co-operatives and Credit Unions. Sokchiveneath also earned a Master’s Degree short program in Financial Performance at TÉLUQ and a Bachelor’s in Management from the HEC-Montreal. His studies in accounting and finance and his experiences with the cooperative network allows him to represent FCNQ and its member cooperatives and serves on the board of Conseil québécois de la coopération et de la mutualité (CQCM), Caisse d’économie solidaire Desjardins, and Nunavik Social Economy Round Table. He is a delegate for Cooperatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC), the chairperson for the Nunavik Cooperative Development Fund, a delegate for The Co-operators, and serves as a board member in nine of the ten FCNQ subsidiaries.
Previously, he served on the board of Centre L’Unité, Centre d’initiatives pour le développement as treasurer from 1995 to 2005, and on the board of directors of Société de coopération pour le développement internationnal from 2010 to 2013.
