Alexandra Wilson discovered a passion for cooperatives when, as a teenager, she led her neighbours in a successful fight to turn 260 units of low-rent housing into a cooperative. Her involvement in saving her own home led to a career spanning 47 years in the cooperative housing sector. Alexandra spent three years working in the international cooperative development field and 22 years on the board of Cooperative Housing International. A member of numerous co-operatives in Canada and France, she is a past board member of Vancity Community Investment Bank, Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada and The Co-operators Group, a large Canadian insurer and investment manager. She serves today on the boards of the Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa, the Canadian Co-operative Investment Fund and the International Cooperative Alliance. In her capacity as chair of the ICA’s Cooperative Identity Advisory Group, she is leading the current global consultation on the co-operative identity. Alexandra retired in 2021 from her position as CEO of the Agency for Co-operative Housing, an organisation she founded in 2005.
